FOUNDING SCIENTIST PROGRAM

What “top 1%” means here

Exceptional scientific judgment, demonstrated through work—not a percentile we claim to have measured.

Evidence of unusual ability

  • Original contribution: you can isolate the idea, instrument, derivation or method you personally contributed.
  • Experimental judgment: you know which control could invalidate the result and are willing to run it.
  • Technical depth: you can derive the governing relationships and explain where their assumptions fail.
  • Reproducibility: another capable person can inspect your records and reconstruct the conclusion.
  • Execution: you have carried a difficult project through failures, redesign and a defensible decision.
  • Scientific integrity: you report null results, disclose limitations and credit collaborators accurately.

The portfolio we want to see

Bring two or three selected contributions, not a publication dump. For each, identify the question, your responsibility, the hardest technical obstacle, the result and its uncertainty, and a public or shareable record. An excellent instrument, software package, replication or rigorous negative result can be as compelling as a high-profile paper.

Credentials and equivalent achievement

A PhD or equivalent depth in the relevant field is the expected scientific level. Equivalent achievement may come from industrial research, independent work or an unusual technical path. We will assess the quality and relevance of evidence rather than impose a university ranking or a minimum citation count. Leadership roles also require evidence of mentoring, technical review and responsible resource decisions.

How we distinguish depth from polish

Expect questions about the alternatives you rejected, unexplained residuals, what failed after reassembly and what you would change with half the budget. We value a clear “I do not know” followed by a decisive test. Agreement with the founder’s hypothesis is not a selection criterion.
