These examples are established physics. Our wider investigation asks where geometry can reveal new explanations and useful technologies. A working demonstration here does not establish a wormhole, new propulsion mechanism or product.

Why geometry is our central investigation

What changes physically when shape, arrangement, boundaries or geometry change? Metric Flight investigates that question across energy, matter, fields and spacetime. We seek explanations, test new possibilities and develop useful implementations where the evidence supports them.

This page is a research map. It includes proposed studies and open questions, not six established laboratories or a list of demonstrated company capabilities.

Define the relationship

Be precise about geometry

Geometry can mean a physical shape or boundary, the arrangement of fields, a path through a system’s possible configurations, or the geometry of spacetime itself. Those meanings must not be exchanged without a physical argument.

An effective metric can describe how waves propagate through a medium. A coordinate transformation can describe the same physics using different labels. Neither alone establishes a change in physical spacetime curvature. A useful geometric explanation identifies the system, the change and an observable consequence.

Spacetime, causal paths and traversable wormholes

Question. Could a spacetime configuration permit a traversable connection, and what physical conditions would make it possible?

What precedes us. Morris, Thorne and Yurtsever examined conditional wormhole transport and its causal consequences. Topological-censorship results constrain accessible topology under stated global and energy assumptions. Quantum-energy bounds constrain particular proposed sources and geometries. Gao, Jafferis and Wall obtained traversability in a specific coupled-boundary theoretical setting; this is not a construction recipe for a passage between chosen astronomical destinations.

What remains open. A metric alone does not supply its matter source or explain how to create it. Formation, access to both ends, stability, tidal forces, causal consistency and useful traversal require separate answers. Departing from a theorem’s assumptions does not itself establish feasibility.

Our work so far. We have included wormholes as an explicit research subtrack, FR-19-WH, and defined analytical questions in the program. We have not created a traversable geometry or demonstrated a physical source.

The next discriminating result. For one specified model, reproduce the stress-energy requirements and causal structure, state the assumptions, and test the applicable energy and traversal constraints. A useful result identifies exactly which condition succeeds or fails. It does not merely redraw an embedding diagram.

If supported. Better constraints could guide fundamental theory and model-checking tools. A transport application would require evidence far beyond that first result.

A metric is the beginning of the questions

Source

What physical matter and stress-energy would support the selected geometry under its stated assumptions?

Research requirements, not completed stages. No Metric Flight traversable-wormhole capability. All seven questions are explained in the text.

Warp geometries and physical sources

Question. Which proposed warp geometries have physically defensible sources, and could those sources be formed and controlled?

What precedes us. Fuchs and colleagues describe a numerical, constant-velocity subluminal solution satisfying energy conditions in their model. That is a specific theoretical result. It does not demonstrate a faster-than-light vehicle, acceleration procedure or manufactured source.

What remains open. Physical interpretation of the source, formation, stability, acceleration, control and a complete energy account must be examined for each proposal. Coordinate appearance must be separated from invariant physical effects.

Our work so far. FR-19-WP defines this as a research path and proposes analytical and numerical checks. No project source-generation method or vehicle result has been established.

The next discriminating result. Reproduce one selected solution’s invariant and stress-energy checks, then identify what survives when finite source, formation and operational conditions are imposed. Record numerical convergence and independent comparison before reporting a reproduced result.

If supported. A verified analysis could improve research tools and identify a sharper physical question. No hardware roadmap follows automatically.

Geometric mechanics and shape-controlled motion

Question. When can a cycle of shape changes alter orientation or trajectory, and what supplies the relevant interaction?

What precedes us. Geometric phases describe consequences of paths through configuration or parameter space. Relativistic swimming concerns extended bodies in curved spacetime; later work corrected early calculations and found that simple geometric-phase behavior requires particular conditions. Harte and Gaffney study extended-body orbital control through gravitational coupling in a different, Newtonian setting. These mechanisms must not be conflated.

What remains open. The environment, constraints, body definition, reference trajectory and actuator work determine what a displacement means. Motion of a body constrained to a curved surface does not establish propulsion by physical spacetime curvature. A shape cycle in an external gravity gradient is not an isolated system creating net momentum from nothing.

Our work so far. The program separates relativistic swimming (FR-19-SW), orbital shape control (FR-19-OM) and constrained laboratory geometry (FR-19-LAB). Reference studies are specified as proposed assignments, not reported results. A gravitational-soliton idea (FR-19-GS) remains an unqualified hypothesis; no controllable generator or transport mechanism is established.

The next discriminating result. For orbital shape control, reproduce a stated extended-body case and account for work and baseline orbit. For constrained geometry, compare the same actuation with a flat reference and explicitly model constraint forces. For relativistic swimming, reproduce a corrected covariant case and its null or symmetry limits. These are separate tests.

If supported. Results could inform modeling and control methods in their demonstrated domains. They would not by themselves establish a free-space propulsion system.

Material and boundary geometry

Question. How do shape, material response and time-dependent boundaries change scattering, forces and radiation?

What precedes us. Optical structures and Casimir-force research show that material and boundary conditions can matter to measurable interactions. Wilson and colleagues observed radiation associated with a driven superconducting-circuit boundary. The driving supplies energy; it is not an unlimited vacuum-energy source.

What remains open. A device prediction must use its actual material stack, dimensions, substrate, illumination and thermal behavior. Forces between parts do not establish acceleration of a complete isolated apparatus. Radiation, supports, fields and energy supplies belong in the account.

Our work so far. The program retains a generic optical-strip check and nominal force modeling, with published-device inputs and version propagation unresolved. The optical measurement program is a benchmark of known photon momentum. It is not the flagship proof of the broader geometry investigation. Fabrication and physical work remain subject to their existing holds.

The next discriminating result. Freeze one specimen and illumination case, join the optical and material model versions, and reproduce its observable with an independent comparison. For the driven-boundary question, close the energy and momentum cycle and compare with a classical source at equal total input energy. Do not transfer an optical instrument’s planning uncertainty automatically to a different experiment.

If supported. Candidate applications include optical design tools, force or beam control, devices and fabrication methods. A particular advantage and user requirement must be demonstrated before presenting a product.

Magnetic geometry and topology

Question. How do field arrangement and topology affect magnetic routing, plasma behavior and useful momentum transfer?

What precedes us. Magnetic routing devices, plasma confinement and magnetic-nozzle research provide concrete mechanisms to examine. A published device called a “magnetic wormhole” routes magnetostatic fields using engineered materials. It is not a traversable spacetime wormhole.

What remains open. A visually attractive field map does not establish thrust, detachment, efficiency or protection. Full power, propellant, thermal loads, material limits and environment can change the engineering comparison.

Our work so far. The program and MPD architecture audit identify magnetic/nozzle studies and candidate comparisons. Neither a field match nor external experimental work establishes a Metric Flight performance improvement. Pair-plasma exhaust remains a separate research comparison, including production and containment costs.

The next discriminating result. Compare a specified geometry with a conventional baseline at matched total electrical input and propellant conditions. Report impulse or thrust with uncertainty, detachment evidence and heat accounting. An equal-input-energy comparison is required before inferring an advantage for pair-plasma exhaust.

If supported. Specific field-routing, nozzle or control implementations may have engineering value. The scope of the demonstrated gain determines the application.

Physical architecture

Question. How do arrangement and interfaces affect heat, energy, protection and structural performance across a complete system?

What precedes us. Thermal engineering, radiation transport, power systems and structural design already use geometry. Applying those methods well is valuable even when a component is not fundamentally novel.

What remains open. A favorable component calculation can disappear when pumps, refrigeration, mass, eclipse conditions, secondary radiation or structural requirements are included. Each mission needs its own reference conditions and budget.

Our work so far. ARLO, lunar and spacecraft concepts expose requirements and interfaces. Existing work includes illustrative thermal-recovery and protection calculations. Modeled energy savings are not measured performance; magnetic deflection does not by itself establish a crew-dose benefit.

The next discriminating result. Close one defined interface against a matched baseline: for example heat demand and parasitic power for a thermal system, or particle transport and secondary production for protection at matched mass and power. Preserve unresolved items instead of calling the full design validated.

If supported. Results may improve design tools, controls, interfaces and integrated systems, with applications assessed separately from any intergalactic ambition.

Evidence and scope

Alpha 1: a specific hypothesis within the wider investigation

Alpha 1 has a conditional field model and a checked finite-sphere force kernel. The physical state-dependent coupling, its actuator and defensible mapping to existing constraints remain unresolved. A kernel normalization is not an observed or allowed operating point.

The v0 decision sheet was rejected as an executable specification, not experimentally falsified. The fresh-context kernel check is complete; the full independent review remains incomplete. Theory is open and hardware remains on hold. A parked spin experiment and a withdrawn unsupported state-charge candidate do not exclude every geometric or superconducting proposal.

The next useful result must define the coupling, physical source, observable, energy cost and momentum account. A missing coupling is a missing model, not evidence of an exemption from known constraints.

Evidence and scope

How we use evidence

We name the predecessor, specify what changes, reproduce the relevant baseline and test the claim within its domain. We distinguish what a system is required to do, what a model predicts and what has been observed.

Related mathematics can suggest a comparison. Transfer becomes evidence only when the new physical case is checked. A natural pattern, a simulation image or a shared word such as “wormhole” is not enough.

The six paths organize an existing research register. They do not authorize new experiments, imply staffing or erase the original project identifiers. Current dispositions and supporting records remain the place to determine what has actually been done.
