Known photon force.
Qualify the complete measurement before integrating a new material.
Research review / 20 October 2026
A critical response to the supplied technical audit. Its useful recommendations were implemented; its assertions were checked rather than adopted wholesale.
RESEARCH RELEASE 0.2 / 20 OCTOBER 2026
Optical benchmark first. Alpha 1 hardware on hold. No physical coupling, apparatus performance or propulsion result is established. The next milestone is a qualified measurement of known photon momentum.
Qualify the complete measurement before integrating a new material.
Measure optical switching, absorption and thermal behavior at the actual wavelength.
Alpha 1 needs a coupling mechanism and a mapped allowed region.
| Review issue | Disposition | What changed or was verified |
|---|---|---|
| Alpha 1 constraints | Accepted, with qualification | Added a historical Yukawa comparison and an explicit mapping gate. Universal α, equivalence-principle η and switchable b are not interchangeable. |
| Optical benchmark first | Implemented | MF-01C now starts with photon momentum closure. Graphene characterization precedes force integration; A1-Y hardware is held. |
| Graphene efficiency terminology | Audit corrected | The published article explicitly uses relative efficiency. The preprint’s terminology does not supersede the final publication. |
| Graphene force and missing orders | Recalculated | The selected orders give 2.522 nN at an illustrative 10 W, rather than the audit’s approximate 2.4 nN. Conditional two-order closure gives 1.982 nN. Neither is measured thrust. |
| Thermal and statistical budget | Implemented | Separated thermal photons, fixture response, gas and electrical artifacts. Added correlated simulation and effective-window calculator. |
| NIST metadata | Checked; retained | The paper title is Practical realization of the watt from Planck’s constant using radiation pressure. The NIST web page has an alternate title. Its 2024 record already existed in the atlas. |
| Momentum and mission-status complaints | Partly not reproducible | The v0.1 PDF already discussed source/target recoil. No NEA Scout claim was found in the current site. We did not invent corrections to absent content. |
| An audit reference pointed to another paper | Flagged | The supplied arXiv:1312.3259 link is Radiation pressure and the linear momentum of the electromagnetic field, not the claimed structured-Casimir paper. No evidence was attributed to that mismatched link. |
| Scientific accountability | Made explicit | Founder/program sponsor is Christopher Hill. Experimental PI, metrology lead and independent reviewer are not appointed. AI assistance is disclosed. |
| Public documentation and readiness | Implemented within present evidence | Public technical files no longer name a NASA contact or imply institutional routing. Model and apparatus maturity are separated. Protocol and citation files are drafts, not registered deposits. |

The audit’s overall score is an editorial judgment, not a calibrated probability of success. The source atlas is curated, not an exhaustive systematic review. This release does not assert new hardware, qualified instrument performance, staff appointments, peer review, NASA endorsement, funding, a registered protocol or a deposited DOI.
