Size the maneuver before the engine

Explore the relationship between station mass, velocity change, thrust, propellant, power and firing time with transparent assumptions.

Editable assumptions, not engine performance.

This tool estimates an ideal constant-thrust maneuver. It does not select hardware or establish station readiness. The defaults are an illustrative ARLO mass case, not measured magnetic-nozzle specifications.

Equations and boundaries

vₑ = 9.80665 × Isp; mp = m₀[1−exp(−Δv/vₑ)]; impulse = mpvₑ; firing time = impulse/F; elapsed time = firing time/duty; P = Fvₑ/(2η). The power relation is an electric-engine kinetic-energy approximation, not chemical engine electrical demand.

The selected efficiency must include all propulsion electrical loads if the result is called total input. Non-jet power is not automatically all onboard radiator heat: exhaust and radiation can carry energy away. The tool excludes gravity and steering losses, drag during firing, reserves, propellant residuals, changing thrust, eclipse scheduling, structural flexibility and detailed trajectory integration.
